Winners & Losers: Tournaments Heat Up, Nevada Cools Down, Crime Doesn’t Pay
Thanks to a lively WSOP Circuit event in Los Angeles and PokerStars annual tournament in the Bahamas, tournament poker has hit the ground running to start off 2012. Numerous people have found their way into the spotlight for their work on the felt, though some managed to see it in some interesting ways. With all the poker going on around the world, it’s sometimes easy to forget Las Vegas is the gaming mecca, and they are noticing it. With decreased revenues and more casino bosses speaking out against online gambling, it’s looking like Nevada has been enduring a bumpy ride for some time. 2012 PCA Super High Roller: Viktor “isildur1” Blom Prevails Over Shak and Hall
One of the most famous – and for a long time, most mysterious – high-stakes players of the Online Era has been Viktor “isildur1” Blom. He had won and lost millions in online cash games before his name and face were revealed to all but a handful of players. Playing primarily online and not turning twenty-one until September 2011, he remains a phantom to most followers of tournament poker. More than a year younger than Mike McDonald, what world’s might he conquer if he turned his attention to tournaments?
