GPI Update: Grospellier Holds at GPI#1 in a Quiet Week
With the poker world about to be focused on Las Vegas for the next two months, the Global Poker Index sees a calm week. With very few new results reporting, event aging creates some small changes to the Top Twenty and only one player makes their GPI Debut.
GPI Update: L.A. Poker Classic and EPT Copenhagen Results Stir up the GPI
The lull in the poker world last week came to an end as results from the L.A. Poker Classic and EPT Copenhagen started rolling in, resulting in a lot of movement at all levels of the Global Poker Index. Jason Mercier holds on to GPI#1. Eugene Katchalov falls out of the Top Four for the first time since the Index premiered while Vanessa Selbst makes her first Top Five appearance.
Epic Adventures: The Night Before
Player experiences the night before a major tournament run the gamut for some, it is highly ritualized, complete with meticulously selected nutritious food, a good night’s rest, a trip to the gym, or simply some stress-free “me” time. For others, it is a chance to catch up with friends that you don’t get to see too often. It is one last chance to unwind before you have to focus and get into the proper mindset required to play four or five days of quality poker.
GPI Update: Selbst Back In Top Ten, Aging WSOP Scores Shake Up Rankings
In a week no new tournament results were recorded, aging WSOP results continued to have a huge effect on the GPI rankings. The aging cashes benefitted players who had no change to their overall GPI score, because they had no end of June or early July 2011, 2010 or 2009 results aging into Periods 2, 4 and 6, respectively. The aging process punished those players who shined during the last weeks of the WSOP but who have been relatively quiet since.
Epic Adventures: A Lawyer, a Magician, and a Kid Named Chewy
A lawyer, a magician, and a kid named Chewy. It sounds like the start to a terrible joke. It is actually one of the tougher line-ups you are going to see at a poker table all year. Don’t let the titles and the nicknames fool you—Vanessa Selbst, Antonio Esfandiari, and Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger are about as tough as they come, which is why they managed to navigate through a stacked field to make it to the final table of the World Poker Tour’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio earlier this month.
