Epic Adventures: Check the Scoreboard, Part 1
A single word on Twitter, accompanied by a hashtag, can silence any critic these days: #scoreboard. In the game of poker, a bad play may end up resulting in a pile of chips. The most genius call of the tournament can be thwarted by a one-outer. These strokes of good and bad luck may thwart a single tournament, but if you want to know about the best players in the game, the key is to look at long-term results, and the de facto benchmark of measuring a player’s long term success is earnings.
Social Director: Following @Samtrickett1 and @Doc_Sands
This week’s Social Director column catches up with a couple poker players who have had banner years in poker: Sam Trickett and David Sands.
GPI Update: Sam Trickett Enters the GPI Top Ten
The final table of the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event, adjourned for nearly two months, played to its conclusion on November 12-13. Sam Trickett’s (GPI#7 +6) dramatic victory propelled him into the GPI Top Ten for the first time. With an astonishing three cashes over a million dollars each in 2011, rivaling Erik Seidel’s incredible year, no one should be surprised to see Trickett in the Top Ten.
Know the Pro: Sam Trickett
When we at EpicPoker.com caught up with Sam Trickett after his victory in the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event in Cannes, France, he referred to himself as “lazy.” Everyone in poker would like to be as lazy as Sam. If a lazy person could start 2011 with a win and a runner-up finish in one week worth nearly $3 million, they would have trouble getting out of the house for the next eleven months.
Winners & Losers: U.S. Government Wants in on Poker
Now that the excitement of the WSOP Final Table has subsided, our attention turns to the rest of the poker world. The busy tournament schedule included the Partouche Poker Tour, which crowned it latest Main Event Champion this week. On top of this, the government, in the U.S. and abroad, is getting in on the act, in obvious and not-so-obvious ways. It makes for a much lighter, but nonetheless interesting, week of news as we settle down from an eventful November Nine.
