GPI Update: Big Gains from the LAPC Championship; Poker Brat Finishes on Top
The LAPC continues to have a big impact on the GPI rankings this week with the conclusion of the $10,000 NLHE Championship. David Sands’ near win gives him the largest gain in score this week, a whopping 488 points, and moves him up 22 spots to GPI#6 for his first appearance in the Top Ten. Just above Sands at GPI#5 this week is Sorel Mizzi who has the 2nd largest score gain of the week.
GPI Player of the Year: Duhamel Fortifies Lead; Schwartz Surges into Second
Last month began with Jonathan Duhamel firmly leading the Global Poker Index Player of the Year standings on the heels of four top five finishes in January at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, including a win in the PCA $5,000 NLHE 6-Max event. With a strong finish at EPT Deauville at the beginning of February and his 2nd place finish in the LAPC $5,100 NLHE event, February was another strong month for the 2010 Main Event Champion. Duhamel began February with a 182 point lead over second place and exits the month even stronger, extending his lead to 226 points over the number two man in the PoY standings. How big is that lead? Second place Noah Schwartz only leads 20th place John Dibella by 122 points total.
Epic Adventures: Epic Pros Score Early in PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
It takes a special kind of poker player to sign up for a poker tournament with a six-figure buy-in. The bankroll requirements alone prevent most players from taking part. However, even those who may have $100,000 to spare might be scared off by the competition. There are virtually no soft spots in these tournaments, so your confidence in your abilities has to be unassailable if you want to succeed.
Epic Poker Mix-Max Main Event Day 2: Tight Race to the Money
More than half of the field survived Day 1, but by the time the first level of Day 2 was over more than one-third of the remaining players had been eliminated. Just 40 of the 61 players who came back for Day 2 of the Mix-Max Event would play any later into the day on Thursday, but that pace could not and would not be maintained.
