Key Hands from Event 2 Episode 1
Tonight is the debut of four hours of broadcasts from Epic Poker’s second Main Event. To encourage you to watch, or to encourage watchers to read about the event, EpicPoker.com has produced a Main Event 2 Companion [LINK]. The Companion features new content – like this Key Hands feature and a story about a game of Lodden Thinks [LINK] that broke out during Day 1 of the Event – as well as highlights from our original live-event coverage.
Main Event 2: Champion for the Ages/Many Happy Returns
Just after 3 AM on Saturday, Mike McDonald from Waterloo, Ontario became Epic Poker League’s Main Event 2 Champion, defeating Hong Kong commodities trader and high-stakes poker player David Steicke heads-up. McDonald and Steicke were the last competitors from ninety-seven on Tuesday and eight who started the final table more than twelve hours before. For McDonald, the final table was trial by ordeal. After losing a catastrophic hand to Erik Seidel with ten players left, he went from the top of the chip leaderboard to seventh among the eight starting play Friday. Even after eliminating third-place finisher Fabrice Soulier, Mike never had the chip lead until he was heads-up with David, and even then he had to win a pot worth eighty percent of the chips in play.
Epic Poker Main Event Final Table Recap
The second Epic Poker League Main Event began on September 7th with 97 players and a $2,301,200 prizepool. After three days of action, the field was decreased to the final eight players. Erik Seidel made his second consecutive Epic Poker Main Event final table, Fabrice Soulier was looking to win the Main Event on his first attempt, and Mike McDonald was looking to give himself an early birthday present.
Epic Poker Main Event Day 3 Wrap
It took eleven and a half hours for 23 players to get whittled down to eight on Day 3, and in the process a very interesting final table developed. There were almost exactly five levels of play on Thursday, or five levels and 12 seconds to be exact. They came back with 18:17 left in Level 11, and ended the day with 18:05 remaining in Level 16, and in between the ups and downs of those 23 players told a story of both heartbreak and triumph.
