Before the Black Friday poker indictments of April 15, 2011, poker’s trajectory was, if not set, easily discernable. A new generation of poker professionals had been launched during the Online Era, with increasing numbers playing for more money and individual successes seemingly growing. The new online professionals also succeeded in live poker, many winning in the biggest cash games and biggest tournaments soon after they reached legal age.
A Tale of Two Qualifiers
Most people know the feeling of not getting invited to the party or included in the fun. When the initial list of Epic Poker League members came out, there were plenty of players who felt like the last kid picked for the kickball team. Relative newcomer to the poker scene, Andy Frankenberger, used a poker metaphor to sum up his frustration at being the WPT Player of the Year yet being less than $30,000 away from making the cut. He asked the Twitterverse, “Did I bubble the League?”
