Adam Levy has established himself as one of the best online pros in the game, and is now finding success in the brick and mortar poker world. Also known by his online name “Roothlus,” he certainly has been ruthless on the felt – chalking up major wins in online tournaments as well as millions in cash games – including a deep run and cash in the 2010 WSOP Main Event. A fan favorite, Levy’s skill at the poker felt should have him cashing for years to some.
A native of Orlando, Fla., Levy now lives in Los Angeles, playing the tournament circuit, and previously playing in some of the biggest online cash games and tournaments prior to Black Friday. Growing up, Levy was always playing games with family members. Like fellow poker pro David Williams, as a youngster Levy started out playing the card game “Magic the Gathering,” but eventually shifted his focus to poker – a good choice judging by his career so far. Outside poker, he is a huge soccer fan.
For several years, Roothlus was a dominating force on the FullTilt and PokerStars online tables, amassing a staggering $3.7 million in online tournament winnings. Levy has cashed in numerous major online tournaments and some of his highlights include: in March 2006, Levy scored a third place finish in the PokerStars Sunday Millions ($56,990); in July 2008, he took third in the $1,000 PokerStars Super Tuesday ($54,096); in August 2008, he won the PokerStars $250,000 Guaranteed ($51,250); in February 2009, a third in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-up $750,000 Guaranteed ($53,068); in February 2009, a second in the FullTilt $5,000 FTOPS Event 22 ($387,500); and in June 2010, a second in the FullTilt $750,000 Guaranteed ($80,250).
In October 2007, Levy added an online sponsorship with UB.com. That same year, he scored his first major cash in a live tournament, notching a ninth-place finish at the WPT C$10,000 NLHE North American Poker Championship in Ontario ($84,437). He then added an 11th place at the $5,000 NLHE Five-Diamond World Poker Class in Las Vegas ($17,560), and in January 2008 he took fourth in the $3,000 NLHE event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure ($54,495).
The rest of 2008 would become a blur of deep runs for Levy, beginning with six cashes at the WSOP, topped by a 48th-place finish in the Main Event ($135,100). His total WSOP haul in 2008 – more than $220,000. But Levy wasn’t quite finished yet, taking fifth at the WPT Festa Al Lago Classic $15,000 NLHE in Las Vegas for another $266,445.
At the Wynn Classic in March 2009, Levy finished third in the $3,000 NLHE event ($36,666), and would continue to have another strong year including: fifth in the €5,000 NLHE – Six Handed event ($67,058) at the EPT Grand Final; two WSOP cashes; and ninth in the WPT World Poker Finals ($66,438). In 2009, Levy also became a poker coach for DeepStacks University, teaching others his tricks of the trade.
While Levy is still seeking that elusive first WSOP bracelet, he continued in 2010 with another impressive run in the WSOP, adding four more cashes and a monstrously deep run in the Main event yet again. His 12th place finish garnered him $635,011 and yet more credibility in the poker world. In 2011, has already taken 21st in the WSOPC $10,000 NLHE Regional Championship in Hammond, Ind., ($22,678), and 29th in the WSOPC $1,085 NLHE event in New Orleans ($2,221).
In August 2011, Levy cashed in the Inaugural Epic Poker League Main Event finishing in 7th place for $70,960 after just missing the final table. His success continued in the second Epic Poker League Main Event with a 9th place finish for $46,020, again missing the final table by one spot.
An online legend, Roothlus also has more than $1.5 millions in live tournament winnings and has become a poker force.
