One of the interesting aspects of Twitter is you don’t know what you are going to find. While there are certainly some very structured and reliable tweeters, many poker pros are more unpredictable. Some will have bursts of tweeting around a tournament or some personal activity. Others are content to have their occasional impulsive tweets speak for them. Then there are those pros that experience a sense of tweeting mania. The tweets flow with reckless abandon sharing an almost unfiltered stream of consciousness.
Anyone who follows all-time top tournament winning female poker pro Kathy Liebert knows she is prone to bursts of tweeting activity and sharing her candid opinion. But if you were on Twitter on Monday, you witnessed maybe the most voluminous tweeting output I have ever seen from a poker pro. Over the twelve hours that I monitored Twitter on what I’m now renaming Manic Monday, you saw the ultimate Chatty Kathy in action. During the day she tweeted and retweeted over 240 times at a three-to-one tweet-to-retweet ratio.
Kathy’s tweeting started to amp up on Sunday as she tweeted about sports bets, movies, and football. It seemed that after she shared her tremendous $9,000 profit from the Sunday’s bets, she was now fueled for a Monday tweeting explosion.
About 25 tweets into Monday, she asked a question that seemed to indicate her inner turmoil at how she characterizes herself, “Twitter poll: would you say @pokerkat more introverted or extroverted?”
One interesting exchange in the middle of the day involved a couple interesting questions and responses:
@pokerkat - Who's life would you like to have if you could choose one? Todd Witteles Daniel Negreanu or Ivey?
@petegotaplan - @pokerkat I guess i have to go with Ivey cause the other 2 dont get laid!!” lol
@draxapup - @pokerkat have to be Daniel cause I wouldn't have to change my lifestyle. He already acts like a gay man!
@pokerkat - @AnnieDuke who would you choose I’d (sic) you had to trade lives with a poker player?
@AnnieDuke - @pokerkat Hmmmm. I am pretty happy with my life but I will take Erik Seidel. Maybe I should go younger though to get some extra years :)
@pokerkat - @AnnieDuke I'm guessing you wouldn't choose Daniel?
@pokerkat - @AnnieDuke I would go younger.
@pokerkat - @AnnieDuke Jason Mercier?
@Dirty_Johnny1 - @pokerkat @AnnieDuke I'd choose Tom Dwan. He Seems to always run good and play well. Tough to beat
@AnnieDuke - @pokerkat I think he would be a pretty good choice. But maybe Eugene Katchalov also? I'll take anyone in the Top 5 @GlobalPokerIndx :)
@pokerkat - @AnnieDuke @globalpokerindx where does Daniel rank? I think you should swap lives for a week for reality tv show. Would be entertaining
@AnnieDuke - @pokerkat LOL! Like a sick Wife Swap episode :)
@pokerkat - @draxapup: “@pokerkat Tony dunst. Young, has a gig with wpt so he'll get paid even when running bad #butillwearpurple” but doesn't win
Kathy expressed her feelings regarding those that complain about her heavy tweeting.
@pokerkat - I don't get people who complain about too many tweets.., following is optional. You don't have to read them.
@pokerkat - My twitter count goes up even when I tell people to Unfollow I won't be insulted if you don't read my tweets.
Even Doyle Brunson noticed Kathy’s high tweeting level and commented.
@TexDolly - @pokerkat I still love you, but did you take a twitter pill? (I know, if u don't like it. just unfollow:-)
One fan summed up the general response “Over the last 24hours @pokerkat tweeting has shown how people don't like it when others change. @pokerkat just be you screw the haters.”
A few hours later, Kathy warned her followers that her stream would be very football-centric with Monday Night Football approaching:
@pokerkat - If you don't like football tweets Unfollow me till tomorrow.
My Twitter observation hours are coming to an end for today, but the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants are battling and Kathy continues to tweet with abandon. With the Saints already leading 14-3, Kathy is on her way to another big win but that doesn’t stop her from sharing more of her mindset.
@pokerkat - Go Giants ...like competition :)
It has been an interesting day of better understanding the manic mind of one of poker’s most prolific tournament talents.
What will I find on Twitter tomorrow?
